These monkeys are instantly recognisable by their distinctive dark face framed by striking white eyebrows and a prominent white beard.
Their fur is reddish in tone, fading to a silvery grey at the rear, and their tail is long and slender.
These unique features give them a truly special appearance.
The species is relatively secure in the wild and faces no immediate risk of extinction.
Reproduction
Brazza's Cercopithecus has a breeding season that lasts from February to March. During this period, females may go into oestrus when food is available. Gestation lasts 5-6 months, and the offspring remains close to its mother for the first year of its life.
Behaviour
Brazza Monkeys are social animals that form close-knit family groups.
You will observe how they interact with elegance and grace, communicating through subtle vocalisations and body movements.
They are known for their intelligence and foraging abilities in forests, making them truly fascinating creatures to watch.
Threats
The main threats to the Brazza Cercopithecus are deforestation due to logging and agriculture, as well as bushmeat hunting. These primates also face predators such as leopards, chimpanzees, crowned eagles, dogs and pythons. Despite these pressures, they use camouflage to escape predation.
Feeding
Although its diet is mainly frugivorous (up to 75% of its diet), it also consumes leaves, tender shoots, insects, eggs and small vertebrates. Like other cercopithecids, it has dilatable cheeks where it can store food while foraging.
